Porto is a city of contrasts. On this walking tour, we’ll take you through the narrow streets of the old quarter, where the granite contrasts with the colorful houses.

The Cathedral and the Clérigos tower are two of the most typical buildings in the city. In the last couple of years, the Lello bookshop seems to have acquired a magical aura. These are a couple of the mandatory stops on your city stroll.

To end this walking tour, we’ll visit the world-famous Port-wine cellars where you’ll enjoy a port-wine tasting. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy at your own pace.

Day 3 | Guimarães, Ponte de Lima and Monção

Departure to the Minho province, at the Vinho Verde wine Region. The name literally means ‘green wine’ but translates as ‘young wine’. The Vinho Verde Region was demarcated in 1908 and recognized as ‘Denominação de Origem Controlada’ (DOC – Controlled Designation of Origin ) in 1984.

Stop at Guimarães, considered to be the “cradle of Portugal”, as this was the headquarters of Afonso Henriques, Portugal’s first king. Visit its historical center, World Heritage site, and the Castle of Guimarães.

Continue to Ponte de Lima, considered the oldest town in Portugal. Cross the Roman bridge and appreciate the beauty of the city. Legend has it that the Roman army, at arrival to Ponte de Lima, did not want to cross it. It was so beautiful that they believed they had reached the river of Forgetfulness (Lethes) – a river that would erase their memories if they crossed it or drank its water.

Visit Monção by the Minho River, at the heart of the Alvarinho wine area. Visit a local cellar to learn more about it and taste some of the wines produced here.

Accommodation – Porto | Duration – Full day | Attractions included – Premium visit to a Vinho Verde winemaker and the Castle of Guimarães

Day 4 | Bairrada and Aveiro

Departure to Bairrada wine region, a Portuguese DOC located close to the Atlantic Ocean.

Bairrada is known for its deep colored tannic red wines that often have bell pepper and black currant flavors, as well as its emerging Rosé production.

Visit a local wine-producing estate and taste the local gastronomy, namely ’leitão assado’ (roasted suckling pig) with the local ‘espumante’ (sparkling wine), a truly sensory experience.

Day 5 | Dão – Viseu

Departure to Dão, DOC wine region, at the Center of Portugal. Surrounded by mountain chains, the Dão region is protected from cold winds, summer rain clouds from the Atlantic, and even continental storms.

The vineyards lie high in the hills, at 400 to 500m, sometimes even as high as 800m, on decomposed schist or granite.

Visit Viseu and its compact old center around the hulking granite Cathedral. Much of the town’s modern wealth comes from the excellent wines of the adjacent Dão region. Visit a local wine-producing estate and taste the local gastronomy.

Long famous as the source of Port wine, the Douro is also renowned for its fine, rich unfortified wines of the highest quality, both red and white. Douro Valley is probably the last of the world’s major wine regions still to be pressing significant quantities of its grapes by foot – in shallow, open wine-fermenters, called lagares.

Stop at a local quinta (wine-producing estate) to learn about port-wine traditional production methods and enjoy a wine tasting.

Appreciate breathtaking panoramas, along winding roads, and admire the beautiful azulejos’ depicting the wine harvest at Pinhão train station.
