Private tour – Departure from Porto

Coimbra is the home of one of the oldest universities in the World. Created in Lisbon in 1290, and after several relocations, it was permanently moved to Coimbra in 1537.

Aveiro is surrounded by salines. It is also one of the cities where you can find Art-Nouveau buildings. There’s a dedicated guide available at the Tourist Office and a museum dedicated to this art style. The canals give a romantic aura.

Coimbra is the city of students. The Portuguese capital of science and knowledge crossed by the Mondego river responsible for the singular beauty.

Apart from the faculties’ buildings, one of the most iconic buildings of the University is the extravagant 18th-century golden library, which was built to exalt the king and the empire’s wealth. The decoration of the building (interior) is a combination of exotic materials.

Bookcases are covering the walls, from top to bottom, meticulously decorated with Chinese motifs. The colors are red, green, and black. All decorations were handmade by Portuguese artisans. As you take a general look at the library, King D.João V portrait strikes your attention.

This library houses a collection of books (from Europe) dating back to the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries. There’s a lot to learn about this UNESCO World Heritage site.

On the way back from Coimbra, we will stop in Aveiro famous for its gorgeous water channels.

In the city center, take the time to walk through the streets and along the canals. Take a ‘moliceiro’ tour on Ria (estuary). These boats were traditionally used to collect seaweeds.

Salt and porcelain are two of the most famous products of Aveiro. When arriving in the city, you will see that the salines surround us. We can even say that the people of Aveiro helped the Portuguese to build up the taste for salted codfish, as plenty of it used to be salted there.

Aveiro is the home of one of Portugal’s delicacies: ‘ovos moles, and we will make sure you will have a taste of it!

If you’re into porcelain, “Vista Alegre” is the premium Portuguese choice. Started in 1824, take the chance to take the optional tour to the factory.
